Operator Marathon says death on North Sea platform was not work-related.
A 59-year-old man has died on the Brae Alpha platform in the UK North Sea due to what operator Marathon Oil is calling a non-work related cause.
Police Scotland said they were made aware of the death of the man at about 10:24 am on Thursday (15 March).
A police statement said inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the death but there are “no apparent suspicious circumstances”.
A spokesman for Marathon said: “It is with deep regret that Marathon Oil UK confirms that a crew member working on the Brae Alpha platform passed away earlier today as a result of a non-work related cause.”
The operator said that next of kin and relevant authorities have been informed.
Brae Alpha is located in Block 16/07a, about 248 kilometres north-east of Aberdeen.
The police said a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
