Small Farm Robots » Curious Cat Science and Engineering Blog

Small Farm Robots Posted on June 17, 2017  Comments (0) The IdaBot was created by researchers at Northwest Nazarene University (Idaho, USA). Using robots in farming is limited today but the future could see a huge growth in that use. Benefits of introducing more robots to farming include reducing the use of pesticides and chemicals to control weeds. Reducing labor costs is also a potential benefit but at current market prices (due to high costs of robotics and available cheap…

Compound shows potential for high-temperature superconductivity — ScienceDaily

A team of researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory has identified a nickel oxide compound as an unconventional but promising candidate material for high-temperature superconductivity. The team successfully synthesized single crystals of a metallic trilayer nickelate compound, a feat the researchers believe to be a first. “It’s poised for superconductivity in a way not found in other nickel oxides. We’re very hopeful that all we have to do now is find the right electron concentration.”…

Common household chemicals lead to birth defects in mice, research finds — ScienceDaily

A new study at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) and the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech has found a connection between common household chemicals and birth defects. Known as quaternary ammonium compounds or “quats,” the chemicals are often used as disinfectants and preservatives in household and personal products such as cleaners, laundry detergent, fabric softener, shampoo and conditioner, and eye drops. The research demonstrated a link between quats and neural tube birth defects in…
