Scope and Trends in Cloud Computing Career

Cloud Computing provides on-demand computing resources which may be either data centers or applications on a pay for use basis or a service over the internet. It’s a kind of computing that relies on sharing a group of virtual and/or physical resources instead of deploying personal or local software and hardware. Today, cloud computing is one of the hottest trends in IT as it is all about simplifying the lives of users and saving their money. Some reasons why every…

High-speed quantum encryption may help secure the future internet

Quantum encryption may be one step closer to wide-scale use thanks to a newly developed system. The system is capable of distributing encryption codes at megabit-per-second rates, five to 10 times faster than existing methods and on par with current internet speeds when running several systems in parallel. New theory shows that the technique is secure from common security attacks. Source link…

Underwater acoustic localization of marine mammals and vehicles

Credit: IMDEA Networks Institute Researchers at IMDEA Networks (Spain) in collaboration with University of Haifa (Israel) have developed an underwater acoustic system for the localization of marine mammals, underwater vehicles and other sound sources in the ocean, using no more than…

Living In A Multi-Cloud World

A few months ago at Cloudflare’s Internet Summit, we hosted a discussion on A Cloud Without Handcuffs with Joe Beda, one of the creators of Kubernetes, and Brandon Phillips, the co-founder of CoreOS. The conversation touched on multiple areas, but it’s clear that more and more companies are recognizing the need to have some strategy around hosting their applications on multiple cloud providers. Earlier this year, Mary Meeker published her annual Internet Trends report which revealed that 22% of respondents…

Screaming Circuits: Minimalist Market Segmentation

As an engineer entrepreneur, you’ve probably heard the phrase “market segmentation.” If you haven’t, you really should have, and, well… now you have. It is one of the more important components of marketing. Like many others, it can seem intentionally obscure and overly complex. If we look it up in Wikipedia, we get this: Market segmentation is a marketing strategy which involves dividing a broad target market into subsets of consumers, businesses, or countries that have, or are perceived to…

Optically tunable microwave antennas for 5G applications

Simulated surface currents on a slotted microstrip patch with illumination of a silicon superstrate. Credit: University of Bristol Multiband tunable antennas are a critical part of many communication and radar systems. New research by engineers at the University of Bristol has shown significant advances in antennas by using optically induced plasmas in silicon to tune both radiation patterns and operation frequency. Conventional antenna tuning is performed with diodes or Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) switches. However, these approaches have significant drawbacks as…

Dropbox Paper: Emojis and Exformation

Communication is hard 😖 (it’s ok, little buddy, we’re gonna talk about some tools to combat this). When it comes to conveying a message with other human beings you have to make sure to speak clearly, listen well, use unambiguous words, remember what the other person said, understand the context surrounding the conversation, read between the lines sometimes, pay attention to body language and intonation, comprehend cross-cultural differences, and so many more subtle intricacies. Now compound that problem with trying…

Spare parts go digital—a boost for the industrial spare parts business

Credit: Aalto University Currently, 5 percent of spare parts could be stored in digital warehouses. This would make parts more quickly and easily available, while creating considerable cost savings. Digitalisation will also enable individual customisation and an increase in the intelligence of parts. A two-year project involving companies, and led by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Aalto University, investigated how businesses can gain a competitive advantage from digital spare parts. Spare parts and all of the…

Solution enables compact devices for telecommunications, security camera applications at even higher frequencies

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed a new manufacturing technology for the integration of very high-frequency terahertz systems. This enables the cost-effective development of telecommunications and imaging solutions and space instruments that are even smaller and have higher frequencies. VTT’s technology was awarded at the European Microwave Conference. The use of systems operating at frequencies exceeding 100 gigahertz is limited by the expensive manufacturing methods. Additionally, the current waveguide-based systems are too large for wide scale use. …

New Generation IIoT-ready Controllers Shorten Time-to-Value

Have you ever wondered how to improvise on operational agility in this emerging environment of connectivity pathways? Streamlining production operations is a necessity but a faster response to changing market requirements is the key to cut the competition. For this, modern controllers are being used to streamline production operations and enable localized control capability. There are numerous advantages present within Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and to provide true value a controller must possess following characteristics. Sufficient Ethernet connectivity so…
